Penny in The Gold Coast, 30” x 40”

We, Chicagoans, know just how Vitamin D deprived we become during these gloomy, bitter cold winter months. That's why when the sun makes its rare appearance in January and the temps rise a bit, we celebrate it like no other in this town.

So, on this sunny January afternoon, I was mesmerized by so much life going on all around me. I just knew at that moment I had to capture this day.

Here in this piece, we have people out and about walking over the melting, dingy looking snow through the gorgeous streets of the Gold Coast. Some appear more optimistic about the weather with their lack of winter attire than others. Regardless of how you choose to dress, embracing our winters is a must for true Chicagoans.

As for the pup, my sweet canine friend and neighbor, Penny, first made her way into my heart, and now, onto my canvas. She's a Texas girl, originally, but has adjusted well to her Chicago life, even the winters.
