Chicagoans know just how Vitamin D deprived we become during the winter months. That's why when the sun makes its rare appearance in January and the temps rise a bit, we celebrate like no other in this city.

 So, on this sunny January afternoon, I was mesmerized by so much life going on all around me and knew I wanted to capture the day.

 In this piece, people are coming out of hibernation to enjoy the warmth as they stroll through the gorgeous streets of the Gold Coast. Some appear more optimistic about the weather with their lack of winter attire than others as they all trudge through the melting and dirty snow along the streets. Regardless of how you choose to dress, embracing our winters is a must for true Chicagoans.

 As for the pup, my sweet canine friend and neighbor, Penny, first made her way into my heart, and now, onto my canvas. She's originally a Texas girl, but has adjusted well to her Chicago life, even the winters.
