About Jenny

Welcome to my site! My name is Jenny and I’m a self-taught artist. I work exclusively with oils on canvas. For years I hesitated to call myself an artist because I don’t have an art degree and never felt my work was profound enough to be considered ‘real’ artistry. But over time, I’ve grown more comfortable with the title. Painting is such a passion of mine, and always has been. I started drawing and painting as a young child, as early as I can remember. It has always brought such a calm into my life, and still does. It's one thing I can do for hours and hours, barely feeling the need to look up from my canvas.

What do I love to paint? There is just so much! But what I am most drawn to is the beauty in the everyday, especially in cities where life is always interesting and changing, sometimes chaotic. I find the shadows, sunlight, angles, reflections and people moving about their days in urban settings so intriguing, and a bit of a challenge. But it’s the kind of challenge I aspire to take on.

That being said, there is another passion I have, both in painting and in my everyday life….DOGS! Well, if you know me personally, you know I have a love for all animals. But dogs are so near and dear to my heart and have found their way onto my canvases. I work hard at capturing their souls. When I take on a commission, I like to hear stories about them, understand their history and what they mean or meant to their families. My paintings of dogs and occasionally other animals are so personal. I put my entire self into each piece.

In addition to my life as an artist, my world is very full. I’m a mom to three teenagers and two black labs, a wife for 21 years to my love, a community volunteer/activist, and a pediatric oncology nurse. All those titles keep me beyond busy and fulfilled. But as I’ve gotten older, it’s my art that fuels my soul and helps to give me tranquility and gratitude as I navigate through this crazy world.
